Annette Matheney Honored for Excellence in Education

Annette Matheney wrote the popular curriculum manual, "The Chemical Abuse Resistant Education for Children with Special Needs"

    MORRISTOWN, NJ, July 20, 2010 /Children and Youth PR News/ -- Annette Matheney, Adjunct Professor at Capella University, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for demonstrating dedication, leadership and excellence in education.

An impassioned educator, Annette Matheney has dedicated nearly 20 years to teaching children with special needs. She initially began her career as a mental health therapist for adults suffering with bipolar disorder, schizophrenia and manic depression. The experience afforded her with the necessary tools to write drug prevention curriculum, which is currently being used by 10 educational institutions. Her user-friendly curriculum manual, "The Chemical Abuse Resistant Education for Children with Special Needs," has been received with acclaim by a wide array of educators. Ms. Matheney has worked extensively with fourth-grade students diagnosed with autism and served as a special education tutor with the Peace Corps, during which time she taught students in Panama. Recently returned from her position in Central America, she looks forward to teaching introductory criminal justice courses for public safety professionals at Capella University.

Ms. Matheney holds a master's degree in criminal justice and business administration from Lynn University, earned in 1998. In recognition of outstanding accomplishments in the field of education, she was named Cambridge Publishing's Professional of the Year for the 2010/2011 year. Looking to the future, Ms. Matheney intends to continue writing curriculum and focus her attention on special education. She would also like to act as an educational consultant in the coming years.
